“I don’t photograph adults so much any more. I don’t have a child and, psychologically, my focus on them is a lot about me wishing that I did. But I am a godmother to friends’ children around the world – in Berlin, New York, Sweden and Italy. I don’t remember much ever feeling like a child, so maybe photographing them triggers memories. They are wild and magical, as if from another planet. And they haven’t been socially conditioned yet, so they can scream and express how they feel publicly. Sometimes I envy them… »

Le diaporama de Nan Goldin exposé l’été dernier à la Galerie Sprovieri (Londres, GB) et encore consultable sur le site du Guardian apporte un autre regard sur les enfants, bien loin des clichés de magazines.

Nan Goldin‘ slideshow exhibited last summer at Sprovieri Gallery (London, UK) and still available on The Guardian website puts children in new light, very different from magazine clichés.

YAYOI KUSAMA // the obliteration room - photos by Mark Sherwood & Stuart Addelsee

Le populaire jeu interactif pour enfants de l’artiste contemporaine Yayoi Kusama a pris une autre dimension avec son Obliteration Room qui proposait aux enfants de donner vie à une maison standard Australienne toute blanche (installée dans la Children’s Art Centre Gallery – Goma, Brisbane-AU) avec des stickers de pois colorés. Chouette concept. Cela me fait penser à une certaine marque d’accessoires de décoration pour chambres d’enfants et aux images utilisées pour présenter leurs stickers muraux géants… vous connaissez e-glue ?! The popular interactive game for kids by contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama has taken a new scale with her Obliteration Room that allowed kids to give life to a typical Australian home all in white (set up in the Children’s Art Centre Gallery – Goma, Brisbane-AU) with colorful dot stickers. Great concept. It makes me think of a certain brand of kids room decor accessories and the pictures used for featuring their giant wall decals… do you know e-glue ?! Thanks Alex ♥

BINNE BEAR // white, big and wonderful bear toy

Cet ours blanc en feutre, entièrement fait-mains, ne peut pas être utilisé comme compagnon de jeux mais est idéal pour décorer une chambre d’enfants. Toute la collection d’animaux vaut le coup d’oeil (et sans doute plus…) : souris, mouton, oiseau, etc… Je les aime tous.

This handmade wool felted white bear is not suitable for active playing but he’s ideal for decorating a kid’s room. The whole animal collection worth a look (and definitely more) : mouse, sheep, bird, etc… Love all of them.

ORAN ETKIN // wake up, clarinet

Pour les parents fans de Jazz, voici un fabuleux CD de Jazz pour les tout petits par Oran Etkin, un artiste New-Yorkais qui se consacre à la production de musique pour enfants ! Wake Up, Clarinet initie les enfants au langage et à un bon nombre d’instruments & concepts musicaux. Gros coup de ♥ ! Merci Jolayne !

For Jazz-fan parents, here is an incredible Jazz CD for the very young children by Oran Etkin, a NY based artist who dedicates to producing music for children ! Wake Up, Clarinet introduces kids to to the language and a variety of musical instruments & concepts. Big coup de ♥ ! Thanks Jolayne !

SOREN KORSGARRD // organic cube

Construite dans le jardin du Statens Museum for Kunst à l’occasion du Copenhagen International Wood Festival 2009, l’Organic Cube du designer Danois Soren Korsgaard est une structure en bois pour enfants vraiment surprenante et intéressante, faite uniquement de lattes de pin. On aime le concept dedans/dehors et la façon dont la lumière pénètre à travers les lattes. Plus d’infos ici.

Build in the garden of Statens Museum for Kunst at the Copenhagen International Wood Festival 2009, Organic Cube by Danish designer Soren Korsgaard is a very surprising and interesting wooden structure for kids, made of pine laths only. Love the concept in/out of the structure and the way the light penetrate through the laths. More infos here.

NE ZHA by SHI JINSONG // razor-sharp sculptures

Par ses sculptures tranchantes et autres oeuvres en relation, Shi Jinsong engage un dialogue, à la fois menaçant et ironique, entre les représentations de la mythique culture Chinoise et la mondialisation actuelle. ‘Na Zha‘ est réemployé ici comme nom de marque pour une scandaleuse et dangereuse ligne de produits pour bébés. Ca m’a fait sourire. (via)

Through his razor-sharp sculptures and related works, Shi Jinsong initiates a dialogue, at once menacing and ironic, between the forms of mythic Chinese culture and modern day globalization. ‘Na Zha‘ is here recast as the brand name for an outrageously unsafe line of baby products.
